The Cuban Situation

There are two things going on in Cuba simultaneoulsy at the moment in the Spring of 2026.

Most people are now aware that the US has decided to impose a complete oil blockade on Cuba. The Canadian government has been a silent if meek junior partner in this adventure, trying to prevent Canadians from continuing to travel to Cuba.

From early March there is almost no oil left in the country at all. I had plans to travel elsewhere in the region, and responded to the situation with a last minute detour to Cuba, whereupon I saw bad situations being made worse by the day, but continued as a tourist to be in one of the safest places in the world.

I was able to bring in larger amounts of aid from others, and help myself with Spanish lessons as well; This projected, less than a week visit is to help alleviate the suffering a tiny bit more through further solidarity aid packages (filled luggage, essentially), but with a massive focus on the most important export the revolutionary government can possibly offer:

The blockade is beyond cruel to the entire population of Cuba. The oil blockade threatens to collapse the amazing medical system that this small island has developed over the last six decades. For people whose families have lost, or worse, are beginning to lose their loved ones to dementia, trying to starve the Cuban medical system is more than “collateral damage” upon patients. It is to deny the last hopes and dreams of entire families as weapons against an entire society– one that has offered medical help to all who needed it for more than half a century.

While speaking to those who can explain the nature of this breakthrough for elders everywhere, I intend to show, step by step, what would be needed to help elders in your life enroll in this program to start rolling back Alzheimer’s and the extra territorial actions of US imperialism at the same time.
